The annual show was well received as thousands converged on the Luana Sports Complex in Black River, St Elizabeth, on Christmas Day. Both legends and he newcomer put on a show for the fans with Sanchez in his usual form delivering hits from his catalog as well as paying homage to some icons who has since pass including Alton Ellis’ “Breaking Up Is Hard To Do,” Gregory Isaacs’s “Night Nurse,” and Dennis Brown’s “Here I Come.”
Artists like D’Angel, Professor Nuts, and Beenie Man, used their platform to give Ninjaman a shout-out. The Dancehall icon was recently sentenced to life in prison for a murder conviction. “Ninja, anyweh yuh deh, respect! You’ve done a lot for the music fraternity,” Nuts told the audience.
Singer J used a part of his performance to pay homage to Unicorn and Cleon “Mineral Boss” Jones who was murdered recently in separate gun violence incidents. “Dem kill Mineral Boss weh is a producer an’ dem kill Unicorn weh is a artiste. Jah know, star, too much killing man,” Singer J said. He then performed his single “Put Jah First” which was produced by Mineral Boss. So far cops have not made any arrest in the two murders which took place only weeks apart.
Sizzla Kalonji closed the show at daybreak and used part of his set to take shots at dancehall artist LA Lewis over a leaked explicit video.
That’s a pretty bold statement from two of hip hop’s staunchest critics. Budden recently left his morning show at Complex, Everyday Struggle, over some internal conflicts and now its seems he is eyeing his next gig in an effort to prove that he doesn’t need the show to stay in the midst of hip hop culture. The rapper turned podcaster recently took part in Revolt’s year-end recap with Charlamagne Tha God and they had some interesting take on the best and the worst of hip hop in 2017.
One of the hot topic issue they spoke about is the so called 2017 trash list. The full list comprises of five rappers that the two media personalities think are whack and these are Lil Yachty, Eminem, Nicki Minaj, Post Malone, and Frank Ocean. They took the time to clarify why they placed each of these artists on the list while making it clear that they don’t have anything against Nicki.
“I can’t remember the last time I saw a superstar of Nicki’s caliber put out three records at the same time, and by the way that ‘No Fraids’ record had the iHeartRadio stimulus package that you going to play every hour on the hour on every urban station throughout the country, she had Wayne and Drake on the record and that record didn’t grow bro,” Charlamagne said. “She had another record with Wayne and that didn’t go anywhere and she had a third record and I don’t even know what happened to that sh*t.”
“Nicki Minaj is a superstar and you cannot have 90 followers and put out three records and non of them catch,” Joe Budden said. The Breakfast Club host then explains why Lil Yachty is the poster child for trash artists of 2017.
The “XO Tour Llif3” rapper also brought out A$AP Ferg, Pharrell Williams, and Nicki Minaj on his last show off his “A Very Uzi Christmas Tour.” Meek’s son graced the stage to loud cheers from the home crowd while his raps along to his father’s classic single “Dreams and Nightmares.” Meek Mill is currently serving time in prison for probation violation. Last month he was sentenced to 2-4 years behind bars by a judge who has beef with him over some age old issues.
The youngster was almost to tears while Meek’s song was being played as he held the microphone up to the crowd to finish the verse. The touching moment was all captured on camera and makes his father’s sentencing seems all the more unjust. Lil Uzi Vert has had a great year after touring extensively with The Weekend and scoring one of the biggest hits of the year with his single “XO Tour Llif3.” He even scored a collaboration with Nicki Minaj who openly said that she wants to work with the rap star.

Tavon was shot and killed in Barbados the day after Christmas. RiRi spend Christmas with her family in Barbados and was with Tavon on Christmas Day. Sources told Dancehallhiphop.com that she is devastated about her cousin’s killing. Bajan police are investigating the shooting incident as a homicide after a lone gunman reportedly shot and killed Tavon outside of his house.
Last night Rihanna, her BFF Melissa Forde, and some members of her family paid homage to their fallen family member by taking shots of Bajan rum. “All these shots are actually for Tavon,” she said. Sources told us that Rihanna and her cousin were very close and the two grew up together on the same street in Barbados. “They grew up very close she was like a big sister to hm, so you can understand how devastated she is,” sources said.
RiRi posted a few photos and a video of Tavon and herself on Instagram. “RIP cousin… can’t believe it was just last night that I held you in my arms! never thought that would be the last time I felt the warmth in your body!!! Love you always man! #endgunviolence,” she wrote.
Condolences are in order for Rihanna whose cousin was shot and killed over the Christmas holiday.
The Bajan pop star confirmed the death of one of her close cousins on Instagram on Tuesday night. Sources say she spend Christmas with her now dead cousin and other family members before learning about the tragic news on Tuesday (Dec 26th). “RIP cousin… can’t believe it was just last night that I held you in my arms! never thought that would be the last time I felt the warmth in your body!!! Love you always man! #endgunviolence,” she wrote on Instagram.
Details surrounding his death are not yet known, but judging from what Rihanna wrote and what folks close to her are saying, it seems he was shot and killed. Nevertheless, a death of someone close to her during the holiday time is a horrific tragedy for her and her family. Rihanna has had a massive year despite not releasing a new album this year. She still had singles that charted on Billboard and was named the top streaming female artist on Spotify for a third straight year. This year she also launched her Fenty Beauty cosmetic line which brought 40 different shades of makeup to revolutionize the market and it paid off big for her since her products have been selling off shelves as quickly as they can be restocked.
Rihanna was looking to close out the year on a high note until this tragedy hit close to home. Last weekend, she performed “Loyalty” with Kendrick Lamar at the TDE’s 4th annual Toy Drive in Nickerson Gardens, California. The pop beauty gave a well-received performance which is the first live performance for her in a while. She also took some time out her busy schedule to attend JAY-Z’s “4:44” concert in California over the weekend. Condolences to Rihanna and her family as they grieve this loss.
