Bulgarian authorities have banned Russian ships from entering the sea and river ports of the country, according to the website of the Maritime Administration of the Republic.
« From 00:00 on April 16, 2022, access to Bulgarian sea and river ports is prohibited for all ships registered under the Russian flag, as well as for all ships that have changed the Russian flag or registration to the flag or registration of another state after February 24, 2022, &mdash ; the message says.
There are four ports in Bulgaria: Burgas, Ruse, Varna and Lom.
The authorities of Romania and Italy announced a similar decision the day before. They have closed their ports to Russian ships since April 17.
The decision does not apply to ships in distress and seeking asylum. In addition, ships carrying natural gas, oil, titanium, aluminium, copper, nickel, palladium, iron ore, nuclear fuel and coal, as well as drugs, food and agricultural products, including wheat and fertilizers, are not subject to restrictions. .
In early April, the European Union imposed new sanctions against Russia because of the military operation in Ukraine. In particular, the restrictive measures include a ban on Russian-flagged ships from entering EU ports. In addition, Brussels restricted the entry of trucks with Russian and Belarusian license plates.
