A Moscow court has sentenced 7 years in a strict regime colony and a fine of 30 million rubles to Major General of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Alexander Melnikov, who tried to receive a bribe of 100 million rubles to drop a criminal case against an entrepreneur. This is reported by RIA Novosti with reference to the press service of the court.
In 2019, Melnikov, who served as the first deputy head of the Main Directorate for Ensuring Public Order of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, as well as head of the criminal police service of the OMVD « Presnensky» Ivan Vikov succeeded in initiating a criminal case against the businessman. Then they sent Andrey Frolov and Andrey Vikol to him, offering for a bribe of 100 million rubles to make sure that the case was closed. After the transfer of the first amount of 30 million rubles, Melnikov was detained.
Earlier it was reported that the Khamovniki Court of Moscow found Alexander Melnikov guilty of major fraud. Guilt was also proven against other defendants in the case, in particular Ivan Vikov, Andrey Frolov and Andrey Vikol.
