North Macedonia has declared six more Russian diplomats persona non grata, according to the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic.
According to the agency expelled Russian diplomats “engaged in activities contrary to the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.” They must leave North Macedonia within five days.
The Russian Foreign Ministry promised to take retaliatory measures. “Russia will give an appropriate answer”, — Agency spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told TASS.
At the end of March, North Macedonia already expelled Russian diplomats: then five members of the diplomatic mission were ordered to leave the country. The reason was given in the same — “carrying out activities contrary to the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.”
The Russian Foreign Ministry called the actions of North Macedonia “an emphatically unfriendly step”, accusing the republic of continuing “the course taken towards the rapid destruction of bilateral relations with Russia.” As stated in the department, Skopje “joined the Russophobic hysteria unleashed by the West.” It promised to take retaliatory measures.
Since the beginning of the year, Western countries have declared more than 420 Russian diplomats persona non grata. This is more than what was sent from 2000 to 2021, — 418 people.
