“So far, this does not mean that Ukraine is ready to discuss something real”
On March 16, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said that the positions of Moscow and Kyiv in the negotiations began to sound more realistic. However, the Ukrainian leader noted that it still takes time for decisions to be in line with “Ukraine's interests.” Political scientists believe that it is too early to talk about anything concrete, but the Ukrainian side is already giving “signals” that it hears Russia.

Political scientist Vladimir Kornilov, in an interview with Life.ru, explained the words of the Ukrainian president. The expert noted that the Russian side also announced “more realistic” positions during the negotiations. He stressed that representatives of Russia said that a certain constructive approach had appeared, but far from being on the most significant issues. Kornilov believes that this is primarily about humanitarian issues.
In addition, the political scientist stressed the importance of Zelensky's statement that NATO does not need Ukraine. Kornilov believes that such statements are “signals” about the fundamental issues that worried and continue to worry Moscow.
Nevertheless, according to the expert, all this does not mean that the Ukrainian side is ready to discuss “what something real.” The political scientist expressed hope that Ukraine heard the warnings of the Russian side. Kornilov explained that in the event that agreements are not reached, the next Russian proposals will be tougher.
