Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi proposes direct talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky, reports The Times of India.
“Proposed to hold direct talks between Russian President Putin and Ukrainian President Zelensky”,— he said.
Modi expressed hope that a peaceful solution would be found as a result of negotiations between Russia and Ukraine.
In early March, Modi and Putin had a telephone conversation, during which the head of the Indian government welcomed the dialogue between the Russian and Ukrainian sides and expressed the hope that they would lead to an end to the conflict.
The Indian PM also suggested that Putin's direct conversation with a Ukrainian colleague “may contribute significantly to ongoing peace efforts.”
Zelensky on April 4 said that Kyiv would continue to discuss a peace treaty with Moscow, as Ukraine must find peace. He also signed a decree fixing the composition of the delegation for negotiations with Russia. At the same time, the Ukrainian president admitted that his meeting with the Russian leader “may not happen.”

The Kremlin believes that a meeting between Zelensky and Putin is possible after the document is agreed upon by the delegations of Russia and Ukraine.
In late February, Zelensky announced that Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan suggested that he organize negotiations with Putin to resolve the conflict. Kazakhstan also proposed to act as a mediator for organizing negotiations on Ukraine.
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, during a telephone conversation with Putin, suggested that the Russian president hold peace talks in Hungary with the participation of not only Zelensky, but also the head of France, Emmanuel Macron.
