Scammers have appeared in Russia who offer to buy goods from closed stores of the Swedish IKEA chain. This is reported by the newspaper “Izvestia”. According to a law enforcement source, three criminal cases have already been opened in Moscow after appeals from victims who transferred money but did not receive goods.
How do Ikea scammers operate?
Scammers operate in several ways at once. So, an attacker contacted one of the victims and convinced her to pay for a sofa previously ordered from IKEA. The victim sent him a “payment” but never received the goods. Another victim ordered 500 glasses from the scammer through a Telegram chat of neighbors at home, paid 50% of their cost, after which the “seller” disappeared. Another victim of the attackers transferred money to an alleged employee of the chain store, which she found in the thematic group on VKontakte.
How not to become a victim of scammers?
Experts interviewed by the publication believe that complete protection against scammers can only be given by refusing to buy “from hand”; goods of brands that have left Russia.
In particular, when buying IKEA goods on classifieds sites from individuals, the buyer will not have guarantees of the authenticity of these products.
